School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Holds Award Ceremony and Report Meeting for “Ozone Layer Protection, Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality” Knowledge Competition

To promote environmental knowledge and spread the concept of ecological civilization, on September 16, the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau’s Solid Waste and Chemicals Management Technology Center and in collaboration with the Shanghai Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association, hosted the award ceremony and report meeting for the 2025 “Ozone Layer Protection, Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality” Knowledge Competition at the Transportation Building. Attendees included Lu Ronghua, Chief of the Solid Waste Center; Shao Naiyu and Gong Qingwei, Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association; Shi Weihua, national training center instructor and WorldSkills Shanghai coach; Huang Zhongzi, Deputy Secretary of the School Party Committee; and faculty and student representatives including Deng Shengxiang and Xia Peng.

Huang Zhongzi delivered a welcome speech, expressing welcome to the guests and emphasizing the university’s mission and responsibility in serving the national “dual carbon” strategy and cultivating green innovation talents.

Lu Ronghua highly praised the positive impact of the event and encouraged students to deepen their understanding of environmental protection and contribute to the national ecological and environmental cause. Shao Naiyu presented a certificate of appreciation to the college and expressed hopes for continued cooperation in promoting environmental protection.

Shi Weihua gave a special report titled “Beautiful Earth Starts with Ozone Layer Protection”, explaining the background, technical pathways, and China’s actions in ozone layer protection in an accessible way.

Since the launch of the event on September 9, various forms of environmental publicity such as flyers, display boards, and knowledge competitions have been carried out, attracting widespread attention and active participation from teachers and students. The event effectively enhanced understanding and support of the “dual carbon” strategy and inspired enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility for environmental protection.
